Book lovers and bicyclists can hop on the “Reading Line” this Saturday for free to see the city from two wheels and meet local authors and politicians with “Books on Bathurst.” The third annual book ride celebrates renowned authors and activists Jane Jacobs and June Callwood.

Co-founder Janet Joy Wilson told Good Day GTA on our sister station Classical FM the idea popped into her head when she discovered her co-founder Amanda Lewis at Penguin Random House Canada is also involved with Cycle Toronto doing advocacy work. She said combining her and Amanda’s two biggest passions seemed like a “no-brainer”.

Wilson says her goal for this book ride is to raise awareness of the need for better bike lanes on Bathurst street. “Books on Bathurst” is also apart of “100 days of Jane,” which is a literary movement to celebrate what would have been Jane Jacobs’ 100th birthday this year. The complete program and reading schedule for the ride is available on http://s3.amazonaws.comthereadingline.ca.
