Canadians seem to have the Prime Minister’s back, after elbow-gate.

A new Nanos Research poll reveals that Justin Trudeau has hit a new personal best on who Canadians prefer as Prime Minister, while outgoing NDP leader Tom Mulcair has hit a new personal historic low.

Asked whom they would prefer as PM, 53.8 percent of Canadians chose Trudeau, while interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose came in at 15.6 percent, while Mulcair was at 9 percent. Green Party leader Elizabeth May was the choice of 3.6 percent of Canadians, while 16.7 percent were unsure.

The poll was conducted after last week’s scuffle on the floor of the House of Commons, when some NDP MPs blocked the path of the Conservative whip, prompting the Prime Minister to walk over and take his arm to lead him away and in so doing, elbowed NDP MP Ruth Ellen Brosseau. Trudeau has since apologized twice in the House while a parliamentary committee has been tasked with studying the matter.
