More Mississauga residents are in favour of Uber than against it, as city councillors in the city west of Toronto make a final decision today on the future of Uber and other ride sharing services.

According to a Forum Research poll, just under 50 percent of Mississauga residents say they do not support the move councillors made two weeks ago when they banned ride sharing companies unless they follow regulations similar to those governing traditional taxis. Forty-two percent say they support the council decision to curtail ride sharing in Mississauga. About 10 percent are undecided.

When Mississauga councillors voted to ban Uber two weeks ago, they left open the possibility of special rules for Uber and other companes through a proposed pilot program. Today, they are expected to once and for all decide if there is a path forward for Uber and other ride sharing companies.
