The average Canadian Zoomer, between 50 and 75, can expect to receive an inheritance of about $180,000 the next decade.
That from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce which estimates they’re set to inherit $750-billion – the larges inter-generational wealth transfer in Canadian history.
The size of the typical inheritance varies as the chart from CIBC shows.
The largest was in B.C., likely due to the soaring value of real estate, followed by Quebec and Ontario.
The average net worth among the 2.5-million Canadians currently 75 and older has risen 30% between 2005 and 2012, and that’s money younger generations are set to inherit most of at some point.
That money would usually go to their children, who themselves are currently over 50.
