The Trudeau government’s allocating another $600,000 for youth summer jobs in hopes of reducing gun violence in the northwest part of the city.
The mayor made the funding announcement after meeting Monday with the federal Toronto Liberal caucus.
John Tory’s quick to point out the money won’t fix the problem but will help keep more young people ”productively” occupied.
Spadina-Fort York MP Adam Vaughan says the northwest part of the city’s been historically under funded.
Vaughan, a former city councillor, says he’s been to more funerals for young people in the city than for members of his own family.
He adds a meeting will be held next month with students, parents, educators and community leaders to see what ”permanent” solutions there are to try to reduce gun violence in the city.
