A record number of people poured into the new Tate Modern art gallery this past weekend for its re-opening.
The re-vamped and expanded gallery in London says there were 143,000 visitors since Friday – and on Saturday alone there were more than 54,000.
That’s about double the usual number – and the highest attendance ever for a single day.
A new extension, a pyramid-like tower called The Switch House increases the size of Tate Modern by 60 percent – and offers panoramic views of London.
The gallery’s artworks have been completely rehung – showcasing more than 300 artists from about 50 countries – with half of the solo displays dedicated to women artists.
