On the eve of the British referendum on whether the country should remain part of the European Union, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he wants to see Britain stay in the 28-country bloc.
Canada’s negotiated a free trade deal with the E-U, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, that both sides want ratified and in force by early 2017.
Trudeau says, ”Great Britain has always been a strong and positive voice around the European table in support of CETA, so we certainly hope that the outcome of tomorrow (Thursday) will continue to assure that CETA has as many strong voices in support of it as we move forward towards ratification.”
Britain’s betting industry expects $188-million to be wagered on the outcome of the referendum, which would break the record as the most bet-upon political event in U.K. history.
While polls suggest it’s too close to call, bookies give the ”remain” side a higher chance of winning.
