As Canada Day approaches there’s another thing to celebrate – in our home and native land : we’re number 2 !!
Yes, we’re just behind first place Finland in a survey of 133 countries – when it comes to turning economic prosperity – into social progress.
The second place ranking comes from the just-released Social Progress Index.
The S.P.I. assesses countries on how well they’re doing – in categories including “basic human needs” and “opportunity.”
In 2010, researchers from Harvard and M.I.T. came up with this global ranking system – to complement economic indicators – which are often used to gauge a country’s success.
The indicators span a broad range, from nutrition and shelter to personal safety and higher education.
Canada’s number 2 ranking – is up from number 6 last year.
