In a year when pedestrian deaths, most of them seniors, are on the rise here in Toronto, an older person has been killed in Brampton while out walking.

A 71 year old woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle near Queen Street and Chrysler Drive just before 11 o’clock last night.

According to Peel Regional Police, the woman was crossing Chrysler Drive from the east side to the west side with family members when she was struck by a southbound vehicle. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle continued on a short distance after the woman was struck. The 17 year old driver was later arrested and charged with failing to remain at a collision causing death. Police say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
