It’s back to school for the kids this morning, which means it’s time to remind drivers to be extra cautious driving in school zones.

Toronto Police, together with the Toronto District School Board, have launched the annual back to school safety campaign. It’s called, “Are you FOCUSED on school?

Constable Clint Stibbe says it’s not just about motorists driving by schools, but parents need to be patient and considerate when dropping off their children.

“We’re going to be looking at the no stopping, no parking zones around the schools. Traditionally we have had a lot of complaints from the school personnel that vehicles are parking, even double parking around the schools where they shouldn’t be, putting kids at risk, especially when kids are trying to cross the street. At the same time, speeding is one of the biggest problems we see in the city on a daily basis, especially around school zones,” said Stibbe who will be a guest on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer after the noon news.

Constable Stibbe says additional officers are also in the downtown core during today’s rush hours to ensure that rush hour routes are being adhered to and drivers stay out of bike lanes.
