The Toronto mayor says he understood some of the challenges before but understands them better now after riding the entire length of the Bloor-Danforth line in subway with no air conditioning.
The TTC’s been plagued with such issues all summer and John Tory finally took Bianca Spence up on a challenge to ride along with her.
He says not only did they experience ”considerable discomfort” but also had to sit through four brief delays.
The mayor emerged from the Kipling station promising ”We will do better next year and going forward.”
TTC CEO Andy Byford adds, ”Whatever it takes, even though times are tough at the TTC with a very tight budget this year, even tighter budget going into next year, whatever it takes this is impacting upon customers. So I said to my chief operating officer ‘Pay overtime. Bring in extra people, brink back retired people if necessary, HVAC specialists who are by nature not a common commodity, these are specialist people. Bring ’em in and we’ll get this fixed.”
