The opening of a Terry Fox exhibit comes with the 36th running of his namesake run to go this Sunday.
Among the reminders of the young man who ran the equivalent of a marathon every day on a prosthetic leg is a signed Wayne Gretzky jersey Terry received just before he began his Marathon of Hope in 1980.
Brother Darrell says the exhibit at the Sports Hall of Fame in Calgary would have meant a lot to Terry who saw the marathon as an athletic endeavour as much as it was to raise money and awareness about the disease the would eventually take him.
Fox was inducted into the hall soon after his death in 1981.
About $700-million’s been raised for research and treatment in his name.
The Fox exhibit will be open to the public until December.
