The Trudeau and Wynne governments will pay for most of the $65-million to begin the process of protecting Toronto’s Port Lands from flooding.
Breaking it down, Ottawa will contribute half to remake the area around the old Essroc quay at the western end of the Keating Channel while the province picks up a third and city hall the remainder.
Work’s expected to start in the middle of next year and take about 18-months to complete.
This is believed to be just the first step in a more ambitious plan to naturalize and reroute the Don River to the middle of the Port Lands between the Ship and Keating Channels.
