It seems many American adults over 50 get no exercise at all.
A new report warns that inactive adults could be jeopardizing their longevity, quality of life and ability to live independently.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control researchers looked at the physical activity of adults greater than or equal to age 50 and found that, overall, more than one in four do not participate in any physical exercise outside of work.
Worse, the older they got, the less likely they were to get this activity.
Researchers note that older adults are likely to have chronic disease or physical disabilities preventing physical exercise, and they suggest that communities implement group activities to encourage better participation.
The data is based on self-reported physical activity from a large national survey by the CDC.
