In hopes of raising $13-billion to replenish the Global Fund, Justin Trudeau said, ”if we can unite around a common vision of a better, healthier future, our world’s most vulnerable can turn their efforts to growing their communities and supporting their families.  Make no mistake this is a defining moment for us all.”
The prime minister added AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria kill roughly 8,000 every day, with women and girls in developing countries being hardest hit.
Trudeau also told the conference that Canada’s pledged $800-million for the 2017-19 Global Fund funding period.
The two-day event, which includes UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates and rock star Bono, is designed to show Canada’s leadership on the global stage ahead of what’s expected to be Trudeau’s first address to the U.N. General  Assembly next week.
