There are free guided hikes on the annual Bruce Trail Day.

And this year it falls on Sunday, October 2nd.

The special day celebrates Canada’s oldest and longest marked footpath – with nine locations featured and hiking clubs hosting the outings.

Along the trail’s southernmost Niagara section, an excursion will take in views of vineyards and orchards.

At Limehouse in Halton Hills, walkers will visit restored lime kilns and ruins. Free shuttle buses will be available to bring participants to Limehouse from Toronto.

Other locations to be explored include Dundas Valley Conservation Area, Glen Haffy Conservation Area, Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, Hogg’s Falls in Beaver Valley, and Lion’s Head on Georgian Bay.

The Bruce Trail stretches more than 890 kilometres along Ontario’s Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO world biosphere reserve.
