Trying to reduce your carb intake?
A new potato, made in Canada, has been grown for people who avoid potatoes as part of a low carbohydrate diet.
The Ontario-grown variety, called the Carisma potato, is touted to have a lower glycemic response, meaning it doesn’t cause the rapid spike in blood sugar normally linked to carbohydrate-rich foods.
A medium size Carisma potato contains 70 calories, 3 grams of protein, 3 grams of fibre and 15 grams of carbohydrates. A regular potato of the same size contains 120 calories, 3 grams of protein, 3.5 grams of fibre and 27 grams of carbohydrates.
