DE KOONING ABSTRACT COULD FETCH $40M

A large painting from one of Willem de Kooning’s most productive periods is going on the auction block in November in New York and could sell for upwards of $40-million; a new auction record for the abstract expressionist.

 The auction house describes the painting as an exuberant work that bursts with colour and textural brush work.
“Untitled XXV” was created by during de Kooning’s burst of creativity in the mid-1970s which followed a dry spell in the late 60’s. He died in 1997.
Christie’s sold the same painting in 2006 for just over $27 million.  It goes to auction November 15th.
