It’s not do or die just yet, but they’re down two games to none hosting Cleveland in game three of the American League Championship Series tonight at Roger’s Centre.
And today’s action won’t all be on the diamond.
Arguments will be heard in a Toronto courtroom today attempting to bar Cleveland from using their team name and logo.
Indigenous activist and architect Douglas Cardinal filed the motion saying team members should not be allowed to wear their regular jerseys, the logo shouldn’t be broadcast and the team should be referred to as “the Cleveland team”.
Cardinal, who is an Officer of the Order of Canada admits to being a baseball fan but is opposed Cleveland s nick name and logo.
Broadcasters, including Jays announcer Jerry Howarth, have vowed to never use the term “Indians”. Howarth says it’ s offensive to many First Nations people.
