Toronto Mayor John Tory is expected to make a major parks announcement this morning involving 500 acres of green space around the Evergreen Brick Works in the Don Valley.
Evergreen CEO Geoff Cape says the land is publicly owned and private donors have already kicked in millions of dollars to fix it up and could be finally upgraded at a minor cost to taxpayers.
The proposed Don Valley Park would be bigger than the downtown park over the rail corridor the mayor is interested in. That project could cost $1 billion to fund.
