How’s your internet service?

Chances are it’s a bit slow, or non – existent, depending on the site you’re trying to access.

That’s because cyberattacks on a key internet firm – repeatedly disrupted the availability of popular websites across the east coast of the U.S., and in Canada, as well as in Toronto – even in Europe.

Among the sites apparently affected were Twitter, Netflix and Sony’s Playstation network.

Web-technology provider Dynamic Network Services says its domain name system, or DNS, was hit with a Denial-of-Service attack early today at 7:10 am. That attack was resolved – but DNS reported a second one around midday.  A Denial-of-Service attack can knock websites offline by flooding them with junk data – blocking the way for legitimate users.

DNS’s services are a key part of the digital supply chain – that allows web addresses like Twitter.com to take users to the infrastructure that hosts them.

There’s no word at this point on where the attack originated.
