A major problem affected commuters heading into Toronto on the Gardiner Expressway this morning.
A fatal crash forced the closure of the eastbound lanes from Parklawn to Jameson, a shutdown which lasted until about 8:40am. A 25 year old woman died in the crash when her vehicle left the Gardiner near Jameson Avenue around 3 o’clock this morning and smashed into a small building on the side of the Gardiner, sending debris down onto the westbound Lakeshore at Parkside.
Toronto Police Constable Clint Stibbe told reporters on the scene why it was taking so long to reopen the expressway.
“With the collision investigation, we do have to track any sort of damage to the roadway and in some cases, daylight is the only thing that exposes that to the reconstruction investigators,” Stibbe explained before sunrise, “So we understand the frustration that the public will have trying to get into the city this morning. Using public transit will be a good option, the GO trains, they do run lines through here.”
