It was good news for Mayor John Tory on Tuesday as members of his executive committee unanimously voted to accept a staff report on how to pay for his SmartTrack transit plan. The report goes to full Toronto City Council for debate next week.
Julie Kwiecinski of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer, her group wants councillors to consider every funding option.
“Have they looked at finding savings within? Have they looked for value for money audits of current programs? Are they looking to see if they have any change in their own couch before they’re looking to revenue or taxation tools?” Kwiecinski questioned.
Mayor Tory reiterated as recently as Tuesday that he’s against raising property taxes but is open to the possibility of introducing other revenue tools as a means of funding SmartTrack.
