The employee was wearing a protected suit and noticed a tear during decontamination after working in the lab.
An infectious disease specialist evaluated the employee, who placed himself in isolation for 21 days – the maximum time from infection to the onset of symptoms according to the World Health Organization.
Officials says the risk to the public is considered low because the individual is not displaying any symptoms and is not considered infectious.
The lab works in the prevention, detection, control and reporting of foreign animal diseases and emerging diseases.
