FATE OF NORTHERN GATEWAY DECIDED, NO ANNOUNCEMENT TILL NEXT WEEK

The Trudeau cabinet’s made its decision on the Northern Gateway pipeline after years of delays and false starts.
However, the company and country won’t learn the fate of the controversial project for a few more days.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s attending la Francophonie summit in Madagascar and returning Monday.
He openly campaigned against Northern Gateway during the last election.

The National Energy Board and former Harper government approved the $7.9-billion pipeline, imposing over 200 conditions.
But the Federal Court overturned the approvals last June after it found Ottawa had not adequately consulted indigenous people along the 1,177-kilometre route between Alberta’s oilsands and Kitimat, B.C.
A lawyer, representing some indigenous groups opposed to it, expects cabinet did not approve the pipeline.
