Toronto Police say a tip from the U.S. helped thwart an attack at Oakwood Collegiate on Tuesday, which was apparently being designed to coincide with the 27th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre.

Detective Len Nicholson says the tip came from a member of the public on December 1st, when a person saw the threat on a blogging site.

A search warrant was conducted on Tuesday at a home where investigators seized a machete, a hatchet, two swords, four knives and arrows. A 17 year old boy was taken into custody.

“We believe that he acted alone. We’re still investigating to see if there’s anyone else involved, but we don’t believe there’s any danger to the school or the students or staff that are going there at this time, so we didn’t need to close the school because we had him in custody at that time,” Nicholson explained to reporters.

The suspect, who cannot be named because of his age, is charged with uttering threats of bodily harm and uttering death threats. He’s been released on bail and can only access a computer with supervision.
