SAFETY MEASURES INCREASED AFTER LAB WORKER'S CLOSE CALL WITH EBOLA VIRUS

A researcher at the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease in Winnipeg, who was potentially exposed to the Ebola virus last month, has been cleared to return to work.

He was working with an infected pig when he noticed a tear in his protective suit.
The employee got an experimental vaccine as a preventative measure, completed 21 days of self-isolation and was released.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says internal reviews found the lab met international standards.
But rules for protective suits are being enhanced as is training for staff.
Last March, the World Health Organization declared that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa was no longer a global health risk.
