At least two provinces are feeling optimistic that Ottawa, the provinces, and territories are close to reaching a new health-care funding framework.
The optimism comes from the finance ministers of Quebec and Saskatchewan.
Charles Leitao of Quebec says despite there being differences, he expects an agreement Monday when the prime minister and health ministers meet.
He bases that on a feeling there’s been enough discussion on the issue and would be hugely disappointed if there’s no deal next week.
Saskatchewan’s Kevin Doherty thinks the fact the health ministers are flying to Ottawa must mean the federal government’s prepared to change their position and listen.
Provinces and territories have said they fear being short-changed if the Trudeau government allows the annual six-percent increase in health transfer payments to expire as scheduled.
