The Times annual article, which lists the top 52 places in the world to go, has Canada as number one because of our 150th anniversary celebrations. In a companion piece on gallery and museum openings that are of interest to travelers, the Times calls the Remai a “splashy new museum” in a “surprising locale.” A spokesperson for Tourism Saskatoon says The Remai Modern, which is scheduled to open later this year, will bring in international travellers, especially for an exhibit of Picasso’s lino-cut collection and about two dozen of his ceramics.
The museum is named after Saskatoon philanthropist Ellen Remai who donated $30 million to the cause in 2011. The new museum replaces Saskatoon’s old Mendel Art Gallery.
