Action by students at the University of Toronto has saved the contents of the Thomas Fisher Rare Books LIbrary. ‘
The books, some of which are a thousand year’s old were in danger from moisture seeping through the walls.
Architectural firms said the books would all have to moved to effect repairs. But then, as part of assignment, five engineering students came up with a method to keep the moisture out by coating the library’s exterior walls with foam and adding cladding on the outside of the foam..
The rehab project on the library, which was built back in the 1070’s, is expected to be finished next month.
