Zoomer legend Margaret Atwood fears the United States is headed back to Puritan values under the Republican Administration of Donald Trump.  Notable, because she says the puritanism and intolerance of 17th century New England formed the backdrop of her dystopian novel “The Handmaid’s Tale.
The Handmaid’s Tale topped Amazon’s bestseller list at last week.  It is speculative fiction about a dictatorship in the U.S. where women are forced to bear children for the ruling class.
The 77 year old author says “The Handmaid’s Tale” has actually become a meme in U.S. politics that turns up on Twitter.  But she cautions, somebody has to tell the Republicans the book is not a blueprint.
