Mayor John Tory wants more taxation and fundraising power from the province.

After just completing the the 2017 operating and capital budgets, Toronto’s mayor is convinced the current funding model is not sustainable.
Tory says he thinks the city should be relieved of some of its funding responsibilities like those affecting social programs.
Tory also repeated his disappointment that the province chose to disallow road tolls on the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway, but is pleased that property taxes are rising by only 2% this year because he’s concerned about keeping Toronto affordable.
