The union representing TTC employees is in court today seeking an injunction against the commission’s plan to test for drugs and alcohol.
The Transit Commission maintains in court documents that employee alcohol and drug abuse is a significant danger to public safety. The union contends the TTC’s arguments don’t make the case. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that proof that substance abuse is rampant is required before any random drug testing program can proceed.
A ruling in this case is expected within a couple of weeks.
