An alert from the City of Toronto for those who make pre-authorized property tax payments

Earlier today, the City found out that some customers had an additional property tax payment – mistakenly withdrawn from their accounts.

The error only affects customers enrolled in the City’s Pre-Authorized Property Tax Payment Plan on the two-and six-instalment plan – with payments scheduled to be withdrawn today – March 1, 2017.

The City says it’s worked with the Royal Bank of Canada to resolve the issue quickly – and ensure that the duplicate billing is reversed immediately.

Corrections to customers’ bank accounts are being made today, on the same day that the property tax payments were scheduled to be withdrawn from those accounts – and that should prevent customers from being hit with bank fees for non-sufficient funds.

Approximately 44,000 accounts enrolled in the two- and six-installment pre-authorized payment plan were affected.
