Ottawa is extending Canada’s military mission in Ukraine another two years.
Canada first deployed around 200 troops in the summer of 2015 to help train government forces after Russia annexed Crimea and began supporting separatist forces in Ukraine.
The mission was set to expire the end of this month but Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan and Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland say our troops will now remain there until at least March 2019.

”Ukraine is a very important partner to Canada and we will continue to support its efforts for democracy and economic growth,” said Freeland.
Asked if further helping Ukraine would upset Moscow, Sajjan said it’s Russia’s action that caused Canada to step in and help in the first place.
