Shortly after Washington announced new restrictions Tuesday for carry-on electronics on direct flights from several countries in the Middle East and North Africa, the U.K. basically followed suit.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced anyone on U.S. bound flights at 10 airports in eight countries will have to check electronics bigger than a cellphone.
The U.K.’s ban applies to flights from six countries; Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.
Washington says it was prompted by intelligence about potential threats to planes bound for American but officials will not discuss if any particular group’s thought to be planning an attack.
Canadian Transportation Minister Marc Garneau says Ottawa’s reviewing the situation but has not made any decision.
However, a statement from Transport Canada says the government’s in ”close contact with U.S. security officials,” adding that a decision on a similar ban will be made ”shortly.”
