A slap in the face for Russia – from Ukraine.

The country’s security service has banned Russia’s contestant from this year’s Eurovision song contest – because she performed in Crimea.

27-year-old singer Yulia Samoylova was chosen to represent Russia in the contest – running from May 11th to 13th in Kiev.

But Samoylova has toured in Russian-annexed Crimea without entering the area by going through the border with mainland Ukraine – a move that allows Ukraine to legally block her entry into the country.

Spokeswoman Olena Gitlanska says the security service has banned Samoylova from the country for three years “on the basis of information received about her violation of Ukrainian law.”

Samoylova has been confined to a wheelchair since childhood. She sang at the opening of the 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
