When Canadians think of gun violence, they tend to think of the United States, but a study published today in the Canadian Medical Association Journal has found firearms wound a young person almost daily somewhere in Ontario.
The study looked at the health records of millions of Ontario children Dr. Astrid Guttman of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children was co-author. She says among the more interesting findings was that Canadian-born youth were most likely to be victims of accidental gunshot wounds. Immigrant or refugee children were more often the victims of intentional gun violence.
