Today is the day 185 art house theatres across the United States aim to show their resistance to a government they say “that manufactures (its) own facts, demands total obedience, and demonizes foreign enemies, with today’s screening of “1984.” in reaction to the Trump Republican Administration.
There will also be screenings here in Canada, in England, Sweden, Holland, and Croatia.
The film is adapted from George Orwell’s 1949 Science fiction novel about a a man living under the oppressive, deceptive authority and ever-watchful eye of Big Brother.
April 4th was chosen in homage to the novel, which begins on the same day with this line, “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.”
