The governing Liberals at Queen’s Park have reversed a decision on a 20-percent provincial funding cut to the Toronto Public Library.
The change of plan was announced suddenly Wednesday afternoon, a day after Minister of Tourism Culture and Sport Eleanor McMahon defended the $1.4 million cut to the Virtual Reference Library Program.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, who raised the issue in the legislature on Tuesday, says she’s happy to hear about the change.
Mayor John Tory lauded Minister McMahon for reversing the cut. He says the Ontario government has listened when it comes to concerns about funding for the Toronto Public Library. Now, he says,”we hope the province will listen when it comes to future transit projects and social housing repairs.”
Mayor Tory has been embroiled in an escalating war of words with Premier Kathleen Wynne over lack of funding.
