A painting by Maritime folk artist Maud Lewis, found in a thrift shop a little over a year ago, will be sold this week for at least $45,000
“Portrait of Eddie Barnes and Ed Murphy” by the prolific Cape Breton painter was found in a New Hamburg thrift shop run by the Mennonite Central Committee Ontario.
There is a $45,000 bid, but potential buyers still have several days to try to top that before bidding closes Friday.The proceeds will go toward the organization’s aid work.
Maud Lewis died in 1970. She’s subject of an independent bio-pic that has become popular in Atlantic Canada.
