Last night in Washington D.C., “Come from Away” won four Helen Hayes Awards; outstanding musical production, outstanding musical director, outstanding supporting actress in a musical and outstanding ensemble in a musical.
The production, which tells the story of how Gander, Newfoundland welcomed 6,500 airplane passengers and crew forced to land in the wake of the 9-11 terror attacks, was staged in Washington prior to engagements in Toronto and its current run on Broadway.
Come From Away recently won five Outer Critics Circle Awards, including outstanding new Broadway musical and is nominated for seven Tony Awards, including best musical.
