There are increasing concerns about an uptick in the mosquito population this summer.  The very wet spring has resulted in a lot of standing water which is a breeding ground for the pests.
Toronto and Region Conservation Authority aquatic biologist Jessical Fong recommends you try to mosquito proof your property by making sure to empty anything that is holding standing water at least once a week.  She says wearing lighter coloured clothing will also help keep the bugs at bay and keep plenty of good mosquito repellent on hand.
Mosquitos can carry the West Nile Virus.  The Conservation Authority will begin screening for that later this month.
