ONTARIO OFFERS CONTRACT EXTENSION TO ANOTHER PUBLIC SECTOR UNION

After successfully offering teachers and education workers two-year extensions that included 4% raises, the Wynne government’s made contract extension offers to OPSEU and AMAPCEO with raises of 7.5%.
The offer to the union, that represents many managers and professionals in the civil service, comes soon after a similar offer to the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, which represents about 35,500 public servants and correctional staff.
Like the offer to OPSEU, the tentative deal with the Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario (AMAPCEO) would extend the contracts past the provincial election in June next year.
AMAPCEO’s current agreement is set to expire March 31, 2018.
Members are set to hold a ratification vote June 23-27.
OPSEU’s current contract is set to expire December 31.
Members will hold a ratification vote June 20-22.
If both offers are accepted, they would ensure no potentially contentious bargaining before Ontario voters go to the polls in 2018.
