Veteran comedian Bill Dana has died at the age of 92.
Dana began as head writer for the Steve Allen Show back in the 50’s where he created his most famous character “Jose Jimenez.”
The shy, Spanish-accented character was so popular that it lead to his own sitcom called “The Bill Dana Show,” which ran from 1963 to 1965.
The character was embraced by the Latino community and Danna once said, “it was a perfect example of a person that wanted to be assimilated into American culture, learn the language, always looked spiffy.” He later bowed to changing standards and retired Jose in 1970.
Dana died last week at his home in Nashville. His death was announced yesterday.
