Tackling congestion was the theme of Mayor John Tory’s  State of the City speech Wednesday to the Toronto Region Board of Trade’s annual general meeting.

He outlined 14 things city hall’s done since he became mayor, and then unveiled his ‘Smart Streets Plan’ … five steps planned for this year.

Tory says the city’s just completed its first real-time and historical data agreement that’ll provide it with real-time traffic flow information to manage traffic better.
There’s a new partnership with ‘Waze,’ the world’s largest community based traffic and navigation app.
‘Waze’ will provide the city with alerts about collisions and lane blockages that’ll be integrated into the city’s systems, then passed along to users.
The mayor also says smart traffic signals will be introduced across the city.
In the fall, steps will be taken to manage WHO can stop in the curb lane, WHEN and WHERE.
And Tory says he’s spoken with police chief Mark Saunders to ensure there’ll be another parking enforcement blitz this fall.
More on the city’s ‘Smart Streets Plan’ with public works committee chair, city councillor Jaye Robinson, who will join Fight Back with Libby Znaimer Thursday after the news at noon on Zoomer Radio.
