OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CITY ANNOUNCE PLANS TO PROTECT, TRANSFORM PORT LANDS

With the city skyline serving as an appropriate backdrop, Justin Trudeau, Kathleen Wynne, John Tory have announced the three levels of government will spend $1.185-billion to protect and transform the Port Lands.

Ottawa will contribute up to $384-million, while the province and city of Toronto will each contribute over $400-million toward the Toronto Port Lands Flood Protection Project.
The aim is to provide flood protection through the creation of a naturalized mouth for the Don River.
Contaminated soil will be cleaned up and the land unlocked for development; mixed use communities with residential and commercial development, including affordable housing surrounded by parks and green space.
In making the announcement, Prime Minister Trudeau said, ”we need to take steps now to ensure that the land we’re gathering on can be safely used and enjoyed for generations to come.”
The project will take approximately seven years to complete.
