Many questions will need to be answered after a 15 year old CW Jeffreys Collegiate Institute student drowned on a Toronto District School Board outdoor education trip this week.
Jeremiah Perry’s body was found Wednesday afternoon by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit in Big Trout Lake in Algonquin Park. The boy went missing during an evening swim on Tuesday.
His father says neither of his two sons who were on the trip knew how to swim and he wants answers.
TDSB spokesperson Shari Schwartz-Maltz indicates that if Jeremiah Perry didn’t know how to swim, he shouldn’t have been on the trip.
“Our protocols, our excursion policy, is that you take a swim test before you go on one of these trips,” Schwartz-Maltz explained, “That’s all I can say at this point. That is our protocol and of course, like any other incident, all aspects of what happened will be looked at.”
Most of the 33 students on the trip arrived home early this morning. Several others are scheduled to be back later on Thursday.
