A special weekend festival kicked off the McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s major exhibition featuring the work of one of Canada’s greatest painters and a feminist art pioneer.
“Passion Over Reason: Tom Thomson and Joyce Wieland” celebrates Thomson’s 100 birthday which occurred on Saturday.

Thomson was a contemporary of the Group of Seven who died mysteriously on Canoe Lake in Muskoka at the age of 39.

The exhibition takes a critical approach to the country’s fascination with Thomson.  It takes cues from the eye of Joyce Wieland, who pointed out in the 1970s that “Thomson is Canada.”

The exhibition runs through November and spans four galleries at the McMichael in Kleinburg, Ontario.
