Public consultations are winding down on the Ontario government’s proposed changes to labour laws.

Among other things – the changes would raise the minimum wage in the province to 15 dollars an hour.

They would also require equal pay for part-time workers – and would expand personal emergency leave.

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce opposes the wage increase – and says it will jeopardize the competitiveness of the small business community.

For their part, labour groups say the reforms are a step in the right direction – and they’re calling for more protection for precarious workers – and those who require leave due to sexual or domestic assault.
